The Venerable Irene Egmalis Maliaman is a priest of The Episcopal Diocese of Hawai’i and has served as Archdeacon of Micronesia for the past 15 years with responsibility for the missions of The Episcopal Church (USA) in Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. She also serves as Vicar of Episcopal Church of St. John the Divine, Guam and Priest-in-Charge of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Saipan. Archdeacon Irene is also Convener of the Pacific Islander convocation of The Episcopal Church’s Asiamerica Ministries.
Prior to beginning her ministry in Micronesia, Archdeacon Irene was among the pioneers in women’s ordination in the Episcopal Church in the Philippines, being only the second female deacon when she was ordained in 1988 after graduating from the ECP’s Saint Andrew’s Theological Seminary in Quezon City. She then served in parish ministry in the Episcopal Diocese of North Central Philippines, as well as in the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Luzon where she was ordained priest.
